The members of Bradigan believe first and foremost that the music they perform should be full of feeling, be it joy, sadness, longing or patriotic fervor – if performers do not feel the music they are creating, then they have no business performing it. For Bradigan, performance should never be about the mechanical regurgitation of unchanging songs, but about bringing both old and new songs to life in vibrant, ever-changing ways.
With that goal in mind, the band takes a very pragmatic approach to the selection of music that makes up their sets. While they respect those folks who focus entirely on what they believe to be “pure traditional” music, they believe that music is a living, ever-changing thing and that if it stops changing it grows stagnant and dies. To that end, Bradigan is always open to new songs, be they traditional pieces, newly written contemporary pieces, or rearrangements of traditional pieces.
Continuing on that theme, while Irish songs make up the bulk of Bradigan’s sets, they also perform songs from other countries, including Scotland, England, Australia, the United States and other countries.
